The Department of Philosophy came into existence in the year 2000 with due permission from Assam University, Silchar. The department subsequently received temporary affiliation from Assam University, Silchar in the academic year 2004-2005.

Mr. Abdullah Hussain and Mr. S. Debhari Singha joined the department in the year 2000 as founder teachers. After a few months, Mr. Hussain left the department, and since then Mr. S. Debhari Singha has continued to serve the department.

The department offers Higher Secondary courses affiliated to the Assam State School Education Board and courses under the FYUG Programme. Philosophy is offered as a Discipline Specific Minor (DSM) under the FYUG curriculum.

The Department of Philosophy seeks to develop critical thinking, logical reasoning and ethical understanding among students. Through philosophical inquiry, students are encouraged to examine the value, significance and meaning of the concepts they use in understanding life and the world around them.
