Department of History
Lala Rural College, Lala
"Exploring the Past, Understanding the Present and Shaping the Future"
About Department
The journey of the Department of History dates back to the
establishment of Lala Rural College in 1964. Being one of the
compulsory subjects in the B.A. course, History was among the
oldest departments of the College.
The College took special interest in strengthening the Department of History in 1966 and 1972 with the appointment of Sri Monoranjan Sinha and Dr. Nazmul Hussain Mazumder respectively, who played instrumental roles in the overall development of the department and the College.
The department initially continued with History as a general subject and obtained approval for introducing History as an Honours subject in 1992. Currently, the department offers History Honours under the new FYUG curriculum under NEP 2020.
The department is regularly engaged in academic activities including national seminars, invited lectures, ICT-enabled classes, class seminars, documentary and film screenings and educational trips. These activities help students develop a broader understanding of history beyond conventional classroom learning.
The department has a strong alumni base and maintains a healthy academic environment with cordial teacher-student relationships. Departmental mentoring and remedial teaching also contribute towards addressing the academic needs of students.
